Our Story

How it all started in 1985

The Start of Great House Farm Holiday Accommodation

Usk, South Wales

Dilapidated farm buildings

My family purchased Great House Farm back in 1985 when it was a small run-down farmhouse with some old animals roaming around and some old, rather dilapidated farm buildings. Over the years we have had various businesses running from the farm ranging from a rugged handheld computer company and then a large free range egg business supplying all the big supermarkets with eggs. Most recently I’ve run GHF Equestrian, a business specialising in training and producing competition horses.

A change of perspective

During lockdown, when we were all at home and the children were off school, we started developing a woodland that my parents had planted when they first had the farm. Spending the summer down there we realised what a beautiful and tranquil spot we had and that we’d love to share it with others. Having children changes your perspective on things and holidays abroad suddenly turned into camper van trips around beautiful Wales. During these trips we learned about what we liked and didn’t like when we were staying away. As we’ve begun to develop Great House Hideaways, we’ve tried to put what we’ve learned into our place and hope that people can come and enjoy the chilled vibe that we’ve tried to create.

Unique and Special couples retreats

At the start we wanted to use some of what we already had at the farm and Craig has done an amazing job of creating unique and special couples retreats with Ty Cwtch and  Ty Gardd. Next, we want to build an off-grid treehouse in a special part of the woodland, this is something that we’ve been dreaming about and talking about for ages so to see it come to fruition will be so cool. The treehouse will be sustainable and environmentally low impact, where people can really submerge themselves in nature. Due to the size and shape of the woodland we can keep these hideaways completely secluded which was an important feature for us.

A winning Combination

We feel our USP is that we have a tranquil and beautiful spot in rural Wales, but we are easily accessible from all motorway networks and just off the main road with no twisting roads to navigate, a winning combination!

We look forward to welcoming you to Great House Hideaways!
